The circuit is situated just 20 km north of Budapest in the small village of Mogyoród, and has hosted Formula 1's Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986. This location provides an extraordinary backdrop for the famously winding F1 track below the natural valley viewpoint.

This tight and twisty 4.381-kilometre (2.722-mile), 14-corner circuit earns its nickname of "Monaco without the buildings," due to its technical and winding nature. As a result, overtaking is quite difficult, making spectacular overtakes particularly memorable. While it was always Hungary's wish to have a street circuit-style race, the track, though certainly a lap taken at a higher average speed than Monaco, is still one of F1's slower tracks, with average speeds around 200 km/h. The circuit divides opinion among drivers; legends like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Fernando Alonso are said to love the circuit, while others find it too slow, demanding, and very hot, especially given its mid-summer timing.
