About the Italian Grand Prix Circuit
Monza Circuit Details: 2026 F1 Season
The Monza racetrack never fails to combine speed with skill, and it has been the setting for some of the finest races of all time. Work began on the circuit in 1922 and was impressively completed in under six months. While modifications have occurred over its history, the current Grand Prix track, measuring 5.793 kilometres (3.600 miles), retains much of its original character. After Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the USA, Monza is the third permanent race track ever built and the oldest in mainland Europe. The circuit has hosted more Grand Prix races than any other venue.
Monza F1 Track: 2026 Season Records
Monza has always been a record-breaker in terms of speed. Peter Gethin's win in 1971 was achieved at a record-breaking average speed of 150.7 mph (242.5 km/h). Although chicanes were introduced the following year to reduce speeds, Formula 1 cars were back up to blistering pace eventually. Michael Schumacher's 2003 victory set a new benchmark with an average speed of 153.8 mph (247.5 km/h). Twelve months later, his Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello set the fastest ever pole position at Monza, with an astounding average speed of 161.8 mph (260.4 km/h). Cars at Monza are on full throttle for approximately 80% of the lap, hitting maximum speeds around 350 km/h (217 mph) on the circuit's long straights.
